Basketball Rules - McKinney Youth

NFHS, UIL Basketball Rules will apply with the following exceptions:
Official Game
(Competitive
and Recreation)
· Game time is forfeit time.
·
Teams must have at least 4 players to start a game.
Game Time (Competitive
and Recreation)
· Each game will consist of (4) eight-minute quarters
·
The clock will stop for all violations and free throws during the
last two minutes of
the 2nd and 4th quarters if neither team is ahead by 10 or more points.
·
An overtime period will consist of 2 minutes of "stop clock play"
· The game will be declared a "tie" if the score is still tied at the end of overtime.
· All players must play at least half of the game and sit out at least 1/2 of a quarter.
·
All players will play at least half of each quarter.
Substitutions will be made during
the first dead ball on or after the halfway mark of each quarter.
· Injuries or foul trouble (3 fouls in 1st half or 4 fouls in 2nd half) will be only reason for
players to not play at least half the game.
Substitutions (Competitive)
· All players must play at least half of the first half.
· Free substitution in the second half.
· There will be no full court pressing in the 7/8 & 9/10 year old leagues.
· 7/8-year-old divisions cannot half-court press until an offensive player with the ball has
crossed the short service line of the volleyball court. Once the ball has crossed that line
a half court press can be initiated.
· Full court pressing is allowed only during the final 2 minutes of the 2nd & 4th quarters in
the 11/12 year old divisions.
· Teams with a lead of 10 or more points cannot full court press.
· Both Full Court and Half-Court Pressing is allowed in the 9/10 and 11/12 competitive division.
· Half-Court Pressing only in the 7/8 divisions.
· Teams with a lead of 10 or more points cannot full court press.
Time-Outs (Recreation and Competitive)
· Each team may use up to three (3) time-outs per game.
Teams will be allotted one (1) additional time-out in the
overtime period.
Free Throws (Recreation)
· Free throws for the 7/8 & 9/10 year old leagues will be from the 12' line marked on the courts.
·
Free throws for the 11/12-year-old leagues will be from the 15’
Line marked on the courts.

(Competitive)
· Free throws for the 7/8-year-old leagues will be from the 12' line marked on the courts.
· Free throws for the 9/10 Girls will be from the 12’ line marked on the courts.
· Free throws for the 9/10 boys and 11/12 year-old-leagues will be from the 15' line marked
on the courts.
Key Rule (Recreation)
· 11/12 year old offensive players will be allowed 3 seconds in the key.
·
7/8 & 9/10 year old offensive players will be allowed 5 seconds
in the key.

· 9/10 & 11/12 year old offensive players will be allowed 3 seconds in the key.

Ball’s (Recreation and Competitive)
· 7/8 Boys/Girls, 9/10 Boys/Girls, and 11/12 Girls will use a regulation women’s basketball.
· 11/12 Boys will use a regulation men’s basketball.
· Blow- out Rule (Recreation and Competitive)

Any player fouled in the 4th quarter while their team is trailing
by 10 points or more will
get 2 free throws.
Jewelry (Recreation and Competitive)
No Jewelry may be worn at any time while participating or playing in practice or games.
